Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow Recreate an Iconic Old Hollywood Moment
Yesterday, Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow won Instagram. The two took to the platform to share a flawless recreation of an iconic moment between Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren, as captured at a dinner in Beverly Hills in 1957 and defined by an ample bosom, a side-eye, and a wealth of era-inspired beauty.
Photographed by Davis Bates and executed by a beauty team that included hairstylist Clayton Hawkins and makeup artist Melissa Hernandez, the channeling of the retro aesthetic was all down to the details—and the actresses themselves. “Sydney and Maude came to me with the concept for this shoot and it was something they had been wanting to do for awhile,” says Bates. “They play sisters on Euphoria, so the chemistry between them on camera is magical. With both of them being in this amazing new generation of Hollywood we wanted to tip our hats to two of the greats of old Hollywood.”
Sweeney’s face was framed by a (likely trompe l’oeil) peroxide coiffure, parted deeply and run through with sumptuously curled ends that hung a few inches above her shoulders, while Apatow traded her long, burnished brunette lengths for a raven pixie a la Loren, sections spilling stylishly across her forehead. As for makeup, the looks were a coordinated affair, with classic crimson painted painstakingly across each pout, shimmering eyeshadow and flicks of liner (Apatow) and generous lashes (Sweeney) framed by bold, shapely brows. The result was a pitch-perfect replica of a hilariously human Hollywood frame, as reimagined by two of its new guard—making a solid case for the occasional infusion of some truly luxurious glamour.
