Meet Brittany Carloni, IndyStar's new Carmel and Westfield reporter
I first visited Indianapolis as a senior in high school in 2012.
That fall, my classmates and I rode buses from the suburbs of Milwaukee to Indy for the Bands of America Grand National Championships marching band competition.
I played the keyboard in the Greendale High School band and spent a whirlwind couple of days in Indy rehearsing and exploring. It all culminated in a performance on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Nearly 10 years later, I’m back in Indianapolis — and not just for a few days.
These days I am covering all things Carmel and Westfield as a reporter for IndyStar.
In a holding pattern: Controversial Carmel bar The GOAT waits to see if it will be allowed to reopen
I’m a Midwestern girl at heart. I was born and raised in Wisconsin on the southside of Milwaukee where my parents made newspapers a daily part of my life.
Nearly every morning before school, I poured syrup over two Eggo waffles and read the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel at the kitchen table alongside my dad.
That foundation is part of what led me to study journalism. I graduated with a degree in the subject from Marquette University in 2017.

For the last four years, I lived in Naples, Florida, covering local government as a reporter for the Naples Daily News.
I learned how to write about land use and zoning cases. I covered pension decisions and how they affected the budget in the city of Naples.
My foundation, though, is in community journalism. I enjoy introducing readers to the stories behind local people and unique places.
In Carmel and Westfield, I plan to be there no matter what the story might be. I will approach my job with dedicated and determined reporting.
Where are the cicadas? Why you may not see many in Hamilton County
In the meantime, I’m getting to know both of these Hamilton County cities and I’d love your help. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with what you think I should know about Carmel and Westfield.
When I’m not working, I enjoy tackling complex baking recipes and walks with my nine-month-old terrier puppy Atticus, named after the character from “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
I’m thrilled to be part of the team at IndyStar and to contribute to the work my new colleagues do on a daily basis.
This is me, Indy. I’m ready to get started.
