Indianapolis police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot Friday afternoon on the city’s southeast side. He died after several hours in the hospital, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Saturday.

About 1:30 p.m. Friday., IMPD officers responded to South State Avenue & East Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive — near Orange Park — on a report of a person shot. They found the man at the intersection alive, with at least one gun shot, according to IMPD. He was reported to be in critical condition and transported to a hospital Friday afternoon. Medical personnel pronounced him dead several hours later, IMPD said.

The shooting is now a homicide investigation. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will identify the man after contacting his family.

Police ask anyone with information to call the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 or (TIPS).
