Two men are dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting inside a gas station on the northeast side, according to Indianapolis police.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the Phillips 66 gas station in the 3800 block of North Mitthoeffer Road after 8 p.m. Friday on a report of a person shot. Police found two people with gunshot wounds, one who first responders listed in critical condition and the other “awake and breathing.”
IMPD Maj. Kerry Buckner said the two men were taken to separate hospitals. The man in critical condition died shortly after arriving. The other man’s condition declined at the hospital, police said, and he died in surgery around 9:30 p.m.
A third man shot inside the gas station admitted himself to Community East Hospital.
Buckner called the shooting a “personal” and “targeted” incident. He estimated 10-15 people were in the gas station parking lot and quickly left in their cars after the gunshots began.
He said police do not know whether the man who walked into Community East Hospital was hit with a stray bullet or was involved with the victims.
Police said the shooter is believed to have left the gas station in a midsize gray Ford with another person.
