DNR officials recover body of Indiana teen from Tipton Lake swimming area

State officials are investigating the suspected drowning death of an Indiana teen Saturday night in Bartholomew County.
According to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office, the body of 17-year-old Tyrell D. Bowers of Columbus was recovered from Tipton Lake in Columbus late Saturday night.
Indiana DNR Law Enforcement officials said Bowers was swimming with friends when he went underwater and did not resurface. The Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call at 9:54 p.m.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the swimming area and located Bowers’ body at 11:24 p.m. in approximately 12 feet of water near a swimming platform. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing. The exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.
