YPN COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The community benefits when young professionals get involved, and YPN partners with various community organizations to not only promote community events but also volunteer and provide community service.

Some of YPN’s community involvement includes:

• Local events: Philharmonic, theater, art shows, concerts, festivals, etc. • Team sports: Softball and volleyball leagues, etc.
• Volunteer opportunities: Tri-State Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Easter Seals, etc.

Opportunities like these give young professionals a sense of community and mission – a vision of everything Southwest Indiana has to offer YPs.

Volunteer Opportunities
YPN offers quarterly volunteer opportunities as well as a major volunteer opportunity that runs throughout the course of the year.

To view the quarterly volunteer opportunities, please visit the YPN News & Events page.

The major volunteer opportunity is a program that YPN partners with Northwestern Mutual to present called the Fun Steps Program.

What is the Fun Steps Program?
The Fun Steps program is a program that will help the children of EVSC get active and learn healthy habits. The Fun Steps program will take place throughout the 2012 school year (August 2011-May 2012). During this time, YPN volunteers will spend time with third and fourth graders in nine classes at three EVSC schools. The students will receive a pedometer at the beginning of the school year. Throughout the year, the students will face five challenges to get them to log as many steps as possible, while being coached, mentored and congratulated along the way by our YPN volunteers. Each week, students upload their pedometer data to a website that will tally their individual and class miles.

Those interested in participating in the Fun Steps Program can click here to download a two page flyer or e-mail Jennifer Cahill, YPN Community Involvement Chair.

Board Involvement
Young professionals are encouraged to volunteer on boards and committees of non-profit organizations and give of their time and talent. Board involvement not only connects YPs with the community and community leaders, but also teaches valuable leadership and decision making skills. YPN will work to help place its members on local community organizations’ boards.

YPN Civic Involvement
YPN is dedicated to increasing young professionals’ awareness of critical community issues imperative to the future economic success and community health of Southwest Indiana. YPN provides opportunities to empower and engage its members with various political and civic leaders to help continue the area’s growth and sustainability.

Creating awareness of who YPN is and what we do in our community helps promote the greater Evansville community. YPN aims to seek out different venues in order to both inform organizations of YPN and enlighten members of the various establishments within Southwest Indiana.
