Education Educational opportunities abound in Southwest Indiana, the education center of the Tri-State. An excellent array of private and public educational opportunities is available at many educational institutions throughout the area. Evansville is home to the University of Evansville, ranked the Midwest's "best buy" in education by US News & World Report. UE provides outstanding opportunities in the liberal arts and sciences. UE also offers the opportunity to study abroad at Harlaxton College in England. The University of Evansville is located on an 80-acre campus in a historic East Side neighborhood with a student enrollment of approximately 2,700 full-time and part-time students. UE recently broke ground on the new 65,000 square foot Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building. As the state's fastest growing university, the University of Southern Indiana is located on 300 acres of rolling hills in scenic western Vanderburgh County. First established as a regional campus of Indiana State University in 1965, USI has grown to an enrollment of more than 10,000 students. Due to such high recent demand, the University is quickly outgrowing its facilities; state-the-of-the-art educational facilities have recently been built. USI offers a liberal arts, science, and engineering technology curriculum and houses the Indiana University School of Medicine - Evansville Center. Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana provides transferable associate of science degrees and general education credits, as well as custom business training and continuing education courses. Associates degrees in applied science can also be earned. Located on Evansville’s north side, the regional campus has 101,500 square feet of classrooms, laboratories and offices. A second Evansville location offers automotive and welding programs. Ivy Tech Community College has recently undergone a $38 million dollar main campus expansion and renovation. The school systems that make up this four county region include Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC); the Metropolitan School District of Mount Vernon; the Metropolitan School District of Posey County; Warrick County School Corporation; East Gibson School Corporation; and North Gibson County School Corporation. The state-of-the-art Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center is the hub for the development and delivery of innovative, leading-edge career and technical education, workforce development and training, adult continuing education, and general education programs for the entire Southern Indiana region. Southwest Indiana also offers an outstanding system of private, parochial, and charter school opportunities. These schools offer comprehensive and challenging curriculums, a qualified and knowledgeable faculty, rewarding extra-curricular activities, and a commitment to quality education. Some of these schools are: the Evansville Lutheran School, the Evansville Day School, the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Evansville, Evansville Christian School, and the Signature School. Joshua Academy Charter School provides a nurturing learning environment that is similar to that of other private schools, to children who would otherwise not be able to afford such an experience. |
