Public Policy

The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana is committed to representing our membership and advocating issues of importance to the regional business community at every level of government. Through a member-driven process, The Chamber annually develops a public policy agenda that serves as a framework for our efforts to impact the legislative process.

Our organization engages our members through our policy committees, a political action committee and special events with our elected representatives. It is our goal to create a forum to educate our members on issues affecting their business and the community, while providing an opportunity to be a part of the process.

During the legislative session of the Indiana General Assembly, your Chamber has a full-time lobbyist on staff in Indianapolis advocating on your behalf and to serve as the voice of the regional business community. To assist in our efforts, The Chamber recently partnered with the US Chamber of Commerce to create a grassroots advocacy website that can be found at www.voicesofsouthwestindiana.com. We encourage all of our members to become engaged in our public policy efforts!

Local Government Candidate Interviews

The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana’s Government Affairs Committee wanted business leaders and the broader community to understand local issues critical to strengthening the economy and creating prosperity. To that end, The Chamber has conducted interviews with candidates for the City of Mt. Vernon Mayoral race and the City of Evansville Mayoral and City Council races.

The Chamber’s leadership team, in conjunction with the Government Affairs Committee and The Chamber’s Political Action Committee, Jobs for Southwestern Indiana, or JPAC, compiled a list of questions that were asked during one-on-one recorded interviews.

JPAC Endorsements Press Release 9/23/2011

The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana created JPAC in 1996 as a separate organization to support pro-business candidates for local and state offices. JPAC is an 11-person, bipartisan board co-chaired by a Republican and Democrat member of The Chamber’s Board of Directors. The members use long-established criteria and guidelines to determine support of candidates. JPAC is pleased to announce its endorsements for the 2011 election and encourages the business community to vote on November 8th!
