Public Policy

The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana is committed to represent our membership and advocate issues of importance to the regional business community at every level of government. Through a member-driven process, The Chamber annually develops a public policy agenda that serves as a framework for our efforts to impact the legislative process.

Our organization engages our membership through our policy committees, a political action committee and special events with our elected representatives. It is our goal to create a forum to educate our members on issues affecting their business and the community, while providing an opportunity to be a part of the process.

During the legislative session of the Indiana General Assembly, your Chamber has a full-time lobbyist on staff in Indianapolis advocating on your behalf and to serve as the voice of the regional business community. To assist in our efforts, The Chamber recently partnered with the US Chamber of Commerce to create a grassroots advocacy website that can be found at www.voicesofsouthwestindiana.com. We encourage all of our members to become engaged in our public policy efforts!

In February 2006, The Chamber, working in partnership with business and community leaders throughout Southwest Indiana, took over 300 supporters of the Interstate 69 project to Indianapolis for a rally advocating for passage of the governor’s Major Moves legislation. Steve Schaefer serves as vice president of public policy and is a full-time lobbyist for The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana.
