Jeanne’s Gelato - a delicious treat in the
heart of downtown Evansville Valerie Ewers tasted something recently that literally changed her life.
What could possibly do that? It’s called gelato, and many experts on the
subject proclaim it to be the best ice cream in the world.
Valerie became convinced that people in Evansville needed to share her
experience. So she rallied the troops- her sisters- and together they
opened Jeanne’s Gelato in downtown Evansville. If you’ve ever been to Italy, you’ve seen the cheerful gelato street
carts filled with the refreshing treat. You may ask how something so
rich and creamy can be so low in fat. The answer, according to Valerie,
has to do with air and temperature. Gelato is less solidly frozen than
ice cream and melts in the mouth faster. That means the customer will
taste gelato’s full flavor immediately. Gelato also has a much higher
density than ice cream. Ice cream manufacturers add air to ice cream
because it nearly doubles the quantity of their product. No air is added
to gelato. The result is a richer and creamier texture. Jeanne’s Gelato is located at 112 SE 4th Street, just a few steps from
Jaya’s. Valerie’s sister, Laurie manages the business during the day
while her other sister, Cindy, prepares homemade desserts including
cheesecake, French chocolate cake, cookies, pies and rolls. Jeanne’s
Gelato also offers soups and sandwiches. |
