October 20, 2011: "Excelerate Your Business...Through Exports!"

With exporting recognized as one of the fastest methods to grow revenue, the Tri-State World Trade Network, along with the Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC), invited two export specialists to present the region's global business community with a strategic approach to export development.

Participants learned why exporting matters to Indiana and some key facts and statistics about how small and mid-sized companies can be positively impacted by exports.  The presentation highlighted eight core steps to export development and gave attendees information about regional, statewide and international resources and organizations that exist to support your business' needs.

"...U.S. exports...have powered nearly half the nation's economic expansion since the recession ended in 2009, their biggest role since World War II."

April 19, 2011: "Achieving Cross Cultural Effectiveness: Successful Strategies When Working Abroad"

On April 19, 2011, the Tri-State World Trade Network organized a cultural event for the region's global business community.  We brought together a panel of speakers to address the social and business norms of conducting business in four countries: China, India, Japan and Mexico.  The presentation highlighted how to be prepared when working in foreign countries and provided strategies to avoid obstacles that other businesses have encountered.

Our panel of speakers included representatives from Uniseal, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Whirlpool Corporation and the University of Evansville.

What did people have to say about the event?
"This program exceeded my expectations!  It was wonderful!"

"I found the event to be extremely educational and I look forward to more in the future."

"I travel abroad regularly for work, and even I learned a lot from these speakers!"

"Our company has just begun doing business in Mexico, and I learned that our approach to meetings has been all wrong.  I now understand how to go about establishing some key first steps."

October 27, 2010: "Winning the Intellectual Property Game in Foreign Markets: How to Use International IP Rules to Your Advantage"
TSWTN Speaker: Luz Aurora Lettiere
On October 27, 2010, the Tri-State World Trade Network (TSWTN) hosted a seminar presented by local attorney Luz Aurora Lettiere.  During her seminar, Ms. Lettiere discussed five types of intellectual property (trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, patents and industrial designs) and explained in detail the key differences between intellectual property rights in the United States and three foreign countries, namely, China, Brazil and Mexico.  Ms. Lettiere also emphasized the steps that any company wishing to enter foreign markets would do well to thoroughly understand before playing the international IP game.
