Warrick County Commissioner - District 3

Don Lee (D), Broker, Don Lee Century 21

1. What are your tip 3 priorities as a candidate for office?

A. To serve with honesty, integrity and efficiency

To serve all the citizens of Warrick County fairly

To make every effort to grow Warrick County, grow jobs and grow the tax base

2. With the ongoing discussion on budge shortfalls, how can municipalities ensure efficient and cost -effective measures at the local level? To alleviate tax payer burden and streamline leadership, would you be in favor of unifying local units of government?

Some unification is needed.

3. As economic development becomes increasingly competitive on the regional and state level, how can our local leaders assist in the attraction of new business and retention and expansion of local companies?

Economic development must happen. I consider the growth and expansion of existing business to be very important. We must continue to work on a regional basis to grow our areas. I support financial support of the regional economic development coalition of southwest Indiana, and serve on its board of directors. I further assisted in the coalition of the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce and The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana and serve on both of those boards.

4. In 2007, the bi-partisan Kernan-Shepard Commission made numerous recommendations to reform and restructure local government in Indiana, such as creation of a single county executive and legislative body, as well as transferring the responsibilities of townships to the county level.  Do you support implementation of these recommendations?

I believe the Kernan-Shepard commission has some good points, but I am not totally committed to all of its recommendations. The creation of a single county executive may or may not be acceptable but under any circumstance should be elected all current positions retained should be elected not appointed. Government should be of the people and for the people.

5. As a municipal leader, how do you view your role in handling issues of regional importance to Southwest Indiana?

We can accomplish more when we can speak with one voice. We must have consistent communication and cooperation between local governing bodies and especially between the county council and the county commissioners. I feel my 37 years of community leadership should qualify me to serve all the citizens of Warrick County as county commissioner.
